No corrupt should go scot-free

LAHORE: PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has said there should be strict laws against corruption so that no corrupt person could go scot-free.

He was talking to a team of constitutional experts of the PML-N at his residence here on Tuesday, who are formulating recommendations to constitute new laws for holding accountability. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Raja Zafarul Haq, Ishaq Dar, Chaudhry Nisar, Khwaja Saad Rafiq, Khwaja Asif, Pervaiz Rasheed, Zafar Ali Shah, Hamza Shahbaz, Rana Sanaullah, Anusha Rehman, Shahid Hamid, Khwaja Haris and Khwaja Zaheer were also present.

Nawaz said corruption and white-collar crimes had weakened the economy as well as other institutions and it was required to weed out such lacunae that helped corrupt people to escape punishment from the laws. The Punjab government briefed Nawaz on their recommendations on the NFC.

Earlier, talking to media persons while visiting Sheikh Zayed Hospital to enquire after the Lahore blast victims, Nawaz said the nation was united against terrorism and “we would not bow down before terrorists but face them with courage.”

He claimed that there were reports about the Indian interference in Pakistan and the matter was also discussed with the prime minister. The Indian interference is tantamount to sabotaging the country’s effort to flush out insurgency, he added. Nawaz said the prime minister had informed him that the government had evidence with regard to the Indian involvement in Balochistan and the tribal areas. The international community wants us to fight against terrorism, but the Indian involvement in Pakistan is proving counter-productive, he said.
