LAHORE: Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif Monday regretted that whenever the country make a take off a military general takes over it.

Addressing a public meeting here in NA-123 constituency as part of PML-N’s by-election campaign, Nawaz Sharif called for returning to the people, what he said, their looted wealth, adding, the corrupt people will ultimately meet their fate.

He said implementation on Charter of Democracy (CoD) is part of Pakistan People’s Party’s manifesto. “I entered into agreements with President Zardari with clear conscience; I was confident CoD will be implemented,” he regretted, adding, it is the betrayals that led Pakistan to crisis.

The PML-N Chief said, “the man who arrests judges is offered guard of honour while a meager amount of 1.5 billion dollars is begged for.”

“The generals betrayed their profession and army in the past,” he pointed out and warned that those who commit treachery against voters of their own constituency feel no remorse in betraying the country.

He said he was offered 5 billion dollars for abstaining from going ahead with the nuclear tests.

Nawaz Sharif complained that the government could have done a number of things in the interest of the country and national but failed to do so.

RAWALPINDI: Chief Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Mian Mohammed Nawaz Sharif has said the name of PML-N is enshrined on the walls of Rawalpindi. “The people residing in Pindi will turn the future of country through my support.”

Addressing a huge mass gathering on the final day of electioneering for by-polls on NA-55 seat here, Nawaz said nothing good can be anticipated from cowards, adding that he wanted to eradicate the politics of hypocrisy, betrayal and double-cross from Pakistan.

Citing the dark edge of military dictatorship in guise of pseudo-democracy, he said a dictator toppled the democratically elected government for his vested interests and founded his own government at the risk of the future of country.

LAHORE – PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has dubbed the present government as a true picture of failure due to its indifference, inactivity and double standards.

“Losing credibility in the eyes of people due to eruption of various scandals and failing to restore national economy, the country has been facing irreparable brunt,” he expressed these views while talking to Fata delegation headed by Senator Muhammad Shah Afridi at his Raiwind residence on Friday.

He said future of democracy was still under threat due to government indifference to problems of masses. He reiterated his resolve that PML-N would never tolerate spread of corruption, negligence and impracticality on the part of the government.

He said PML-N would continue its mission to establish a society free from corruption. On the issue of freedom of judiciary, he said that the government’s step against the judiciary had created a situation of collision among institutions. This act had not only threatened democracy but also caused disgrace to the politicians, he said. However, he said PML-N had taken stand on the appointment of judges to save the system.
He said that democracy was alive due to rigorous struggle of lawyers, political workers, legal fraternity, media and civil society. Hence, PML-N would never let anybody endanger the system. “We shall spare no effort to protect the nobility of judiciary and sanctity of institutions,” he added.

He said: “Our basic onus is to protect the interests of people and the country by waging a war for the elimination of all social evils.” He said the party would not take a sigh of relief unless society was purged from corrupt elements. He said that PML-N had prioritised to take to task those who had violated the Constitution.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has urged the United States to use its influence for resumption of meaningful, comprehensive and result-oriented talks between Pakistan and India.

He expressed these views at a meeting with the US special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke, who called on the PML-N chief at Punjab House on Thursday.

Nawaz stressed that the composite dialogue process stalled after 26/11 Mumbai attacks between two neighborly countries should be back on track instead of just one meeting.

According to a statement issued from Punjab House, Nawaz Sharif said that peace could not be established in the region without solution of the Kashmir dispute in line with the UN plebiscite and according to aspirations of Kashmiri people.

About the water dispute, he said that India should refrain from triggering yet another crisis between the two countries.

The PML-N chief also raised the issue of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi’s detention with US envoy and demanded her immediate release.

SUKKUR – PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday accused President Asif Ali Zardari of his disqualification from contesting elections through Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar.

“Although President Zardari got me disqualified through Justice Dogar (now retired), I dined with him in the best interest of the country,” he remarked. Talking to the media at the residence of District Nazim Ghotki Sardar Ali Gohar Khan Mahar at Khangarh, he maintained that the implementation of Charter of Democracy (CoD) would have saved Pakistan from the trouble it was facing at this moment, adding that his party had been waiting for the repeal of the 17th Amendment two years.

He said he did not want to take premiership from Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. He said that internal differences would result in collapse of democracy in the country. In Bhurban Declaration, he reminded that the PML-N had told the PPP that “we don’t need ministries but want restoration of judges, abolition of 17th Constitutional Amendment and implementation of CoD.” The country is facing grave problems, including unemployment, hunger, price-hike, poverty, lawlessness and rampant corruption, he said.

He further said there was a huge gap between the rich and the poor, which, he stated, was the basic cause of turmoil in the country. Answering a question, Nawaz said that had marital laws not been imposed in Pakistan, the country would have been ranked among the developed nations. He said there was a dire need to provide justice to the people of the country. The government had failed to solve the problems of the country, he added.

He said President Zardari was not sincere in repealing the 17th Amendment, adding that he (Zardari) had made promises on several occasions to repeal the black laws but the PPP government had entered its third year but neither the 17th Amendment had been abolished nor COD had been implemented.
“I love the people of Sindh and Balochistan. I have special affiliation with the people of these two provinces,” he said.
